Motivations behind the move to the Big Apple~

Whenever I meet someone who isn't from NY, it's become an involuntary response to ask them, "So, why did you move here?"  Of course, my first instinct is due to a new job, or new venture in his/her life.  However, when they don't use those answers, that's what really interests me. Sure NYC has an outstanding reputation for many reasons, but there are also struggles that develop.  One of the largest, is money.  It's valid to say that most apartments in Manhattan tend to be ridiculously expensive for the space- to the point where one must have room mates in order to maintain the monthly expense.  Not only that, but just to live here is pricey (commuting, grocery shopping, bars/restaurants, other entertainment).  Another struggle is to learn how to become street smart and not be intimidated by strangers.   I've had  friends visit and right away they become too afraid to come back--let alone live!   One must sacrifice a lot to be able to actually survive here. It definitely isn't easy living in such an overwhelming city., but if you are able to, what a triumph it is!!
