Disparities

Riding the subway every day, I can't help myself from observing the very clear disparities of people.  Of course, it's New York City which is the "mecca of cultures", but to place everyone together on one train isn't an easy thing to get used to for some.   Just yesterday, on a cramped and crowded 5 train heading back to Brooklyn, this middle-aged man who was standing near the door of the train kept cursing under his breath and acting totally bothered and inappropriate.  Under his breath I heard such foul words and I felt his tension!   As a native New Yorker, I can understand his tension but what I don't comprehend is why people have to be vocal to about their issues.  Sure, I'll roll my eyes but I'll never make my issue a stranger's issue who's just trying to go from point A to point B.  I've lived with different cultures my entire life, but once you move from suburbia to city life it's intimidating!  Sadly, I admit that I've picked up a lot more pet peeves that never disappear.  Even in the most intense and angry situations, no one should start verbal fights with a stranger.  I think there's a fine line between decency and rude in the subway travels.  People quickly forget the simple manners that our elders taught us at age 5. From my observations, I feel that certain classes of people have the need to "represent" themselves by acting obnoxious and are fine with it.  These disparities will only become larger as time goes by.     New York City definitely builds a "strength wall" and not everyone can adapt to it.
